GMO Payment Gateway expands in Japan

TOKYO - JAPAN | Since opening subsidiary GMO Payment Gateway PTE. Ltd. (GMO-PG) in October 2012, GMO-PG has been developing plans to expand services globally, with a focus on Asia. Last week, GMO Payment Gateway Inc. announced the establishment of local entity in Japan, GMO Payment Gateway Hong Kong Limited.


Location driven by market demand

The company chose Hong Kong as the location of its first local entity after extensive market research revealed high demand for a service that would enable Japanese ecommerce stores and digital content providers to accept payment in local currencies, using trusted local payment methods while managing transactions in multiple markets from a single user interface.


Service will launch in October 2013

Following the establishment of this local entity, global payment processing service for ecommerce and digital content providers, GMO-PG Global Payment, will launch October 2013. GMO-PG plans to expand services by establishing local entities and branches in Southeast Asia including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Taiwan. GMO-PG  will also continue to foster business alliances with local partners that will enable us to provide the most popular payment methods in each region.
