JAKARTA, LONDON | ReD, a leading global provider of fraud prevention and payment services, is providing its ReD Shield® online fraud prevention service to protect merchant customers of PT Midtrans, a new online payments gateway for the Indonesian market.

PT Midtrans launched its gateway service in Indonesia in October, recognizing that the ecommerce market in Indonesia is on the cusp of significant growth. The market is also a high risk country for payment fraud and integration of a world-class ecommerce fraud prevention service was critical to the company’s launch. The ReD Shield service has been integrated into the PT Midtrans payment platform by Scudetto, a primary ReD partner in Asian markets.

Integration of the ReD Shield service into the PT Midtrans payment environment is initially providing real-time online fraud prevention for merchants operating in consumer electronics, online gaming, fashion and travel sectors. ReD Shield incorporates risk models and rule sets that are specifically tailored to individual sectors, since fraud patterns and behaviours vary by sector. Additional models will be deployed as new merchants from other sectors sign up with PT Midtrans.

The ReD Shield service is well established and today protects many of the world’s leading merchants, across Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa, North America and Latin America. For every transaction, ReD Shield acts in a split-second to assemble and analyse information and determine whether or not a payment is genuine. The service is backed by ReD’s risk analysts, who have deep experience of fraud around the globe, and by the company’s access to a vast global database of ‘hot’ cards which it uses to help detect and prevent online fraud.

Ryu Kawano Suliawan, co-founder of PT Midtrans, commented, “Payments have always been a major hurdle for ecommerce companies operating in Indonesia. As we look forward to rapid ecommerce growth, it is essential that merchants of all sizes have a secure, reliable and easily accessible online payment solution. With the integration of ReD Shield, we can offer world-class processing and risk management capabilities to merchants in Indonesia, enabling them to expand their ecommerce activities with confidence.”

Paul Avery, regional president for ReD in Asia Pacific, added, “PT Midtrans has a clear understanding of the Indonesian market and a strong proposition for merchants there. The company has robust expansion plans and ReD Shield will provide a stable and reliable fraud prevention solution to meet the company’s needs as it grows. With our partner Scudetto, we are delighted to be supporting PT Midtrans and expanding our presence in the burgeoning Asian ecommerce market.”
