PARIS | Adyen, the global payment solutions company, has today announced that it has become a member of the French Bank Card Group GIE Carte Bancaire (CB), France’s national interbank network, to enable its customers to benefit from the French card processing specificities and achieve significantly better transaction conversion rates. Merchants using the Adyen payment solution in France can now receive full 360° support covering the entire payment chain, including all technical, contractual and settlement processes.
In France, the Carte Bancaire scheme uses a closed national network operated and controlled by the GIE Carte Bancaire. This differs from most countries, where card processing is carried out by the international Visa and MasterCard networks for these schemes. By becoming a member of GIE Cartes Bancaire, Adyen can now offer merchants a local payment solution completely tailored to the specific requirements of the French market, thereby reinforcing its position as the most innovative, customer service-oriented international payment service provider.
In addition to offering a connection to 87 acquiring partners worldwide, Adyen also acts as an acquirer itself, linking directly to the most relevant card schemes including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners and Union Pay. Adyen holds a full acquiring licence for Visa and Mastercard in Europe, and has local acquiring capabilities in a number of countries including Russia, Brazil, Australia and now France.
“This new card acquiring capability forms an essential part of Adyen’s ongoing strategy to process all card data locally in order to achieve the best possible acceptance rates and benefit from more attractive local market conditions,” explained François Helard, VP Sales Southern Europe, Adyen. “Membership to the GIE Carte Bancaire is an absolute must if we are to provide our clients with the best service.”
Adyen announced the further expansion of its European operations in late 2012, with the opening of its French subsidiary. The move followed phenomenal demand from within the French market from merchants looking for a payment service provider that could offer alternative payment methods in addition to providing local payment expertise on a global scale.
“By becoming a French acquirer, Adyen is adding local acquiring capabilities to fulfil the specific needs of this market. Adyen is the only global payment solutions company to belong to GIE Carte Bancaire, and through this membership and our deep knowledge of the payments landscape, we will be able to tailor to the French market effectively,” said Roelant Prins, CCO, Adyen. “Our customers benefit greatly from our local acquiring solutions and we will continue to develop our unique card acquiring infrastructure to further support them with the most innovative payment solution worldwide.”
